Semi-Trailer Parallel Spindles
Our Parallel Spindles come in three sizes: 75, 85, and 115. These models differ by the spindle’s rear outer diameter (OD) bore and are designed to fit axle tubes from 5″ to 5 3⁄4″ in diameter. All Parallel Spindles use the same inner and outer bearing sizes. This spindle type is also commonly known as a straight spindle for its uniform shape.
Not sure which spindle size fits your axle? Enter your axle tube’s OD, wall thickness, and ID into our Axle Fit Finder, and it will recommend the compatible spindle and sleeve for your axle dimensions.
Semi-Trailer Tapered Spindles
Our Tapered Spindles are available in three sizes: 75, 85, and 115. These models differ by the spindle’s rear OD and are designed to fit axle tubes from 5″ to 5 3⁄4″ in diameter. Unlike Parallel Spindles, Tapered Spindles use different inner and outer bearing sizes. This spindle type is sometimes called a step spindle because its bearing journals decrease in diameter from the inner bearing to the outer bearing.
Not sure which spindle size fits your axle? Enter your axle tube OD, wall thickness, and ID into our Axle Fit Finder, and it will provide the compatible spindle and sleeve based on your axle dimensions.
SAF Holland Spindles (Left & Right)
Built to OEM specifications for SAF Holland rear axle assemblies. Manufactured with heat-treated bearing areas for reliable load support and long-term durability. Available separately as left- and right-side spindles to match your axle configuration.
Utility Trailer Spindles
We offer a wide range of utility and equipment trailer spindles for light- to heavy-duty applications, including Dexter axle-compatible options across multiple weight ranges, such as 5.2K–7K, 9K–10K, and other axle capacities, to help you find the right replacement spindle for your trailer repair needs.
Trailer Lift Axle Spindles
Our Trailer Lift Axle Spindle is built to OEM spec for Link lift steer axles, the lift-axle assemblies that raise and lower to manage tire wear and axle weight on multi-axle trailers. It’s a direct-fit, precision-machined replacement designed to maintain consistent wheel-end alignment during fleet maintenance and axle rebuild work. Check the bearing and locknut part numbers against your existing setup before ordering.
When to Replace Trailer Spindles
Spindle failure usually shows warning signs well before it becomes a roadside breakdown. If you’re seeing any of the issues below, inspect the spindle itself, not just the bearing or seal, before ordering parts.
⚠ Wheel wobble or vibration at speed
A worn spindle bearing surface lets the hub move side to side. If a new bearing doesn’t fix the play, the spindle itself is the problem.
⚠ Scoring, pitting, or rust on the bearing surface
Run a finger over it. Any roughness means the spindle can no longer hold a proper bearing fit, and swapping the bearing alone won’t solve it.
⚠ A hub seal that keeps failing on the same wheel end
Repeat seal failures usually point to a spindle surface that’s worn out of round underneath it.
⚠ A bent or cracked spindle
Visible bending, especially after hitting a curb or pothole hard, immediately takes the trailer out of service. A crack is a structural failure waiting to happen.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I measure and choose the right spindle?
Our step-by-step video covers the complete measurement process: first, identify whether your OEM spindle is tapered or parallel. Next, measure the axle tube outside diameter (OD), then cut the damaged spindle following the instructions provided in the video. Measure the axle tube wall thickness, and calculate the inside diameter (ID) by subtracting twice the wall thickness from the OD. Use the calculated ID to match the correct spindle and sleeve model for your axle setup.
How much does it cost to replace a trailer spindle?
The part itself typically runs between $525 and $845, depending on the type and size you need. Utility trailer spindles start around $525, semi-trailer parallel and tapered spindles run about $750, and SAF Holland spindles are $845 per side. None of the spindles include bearings, seals, or hub hardware. Some models require a compatible sleeve for installation, which is included. Installation labor is on top of that and depends on the shop; welding on a utility spindle and pressing on a semi-trailer spindle take different setups and different time.
Do I need special tools to replace a trailer spindle?
Utility trailer spindle swaps need welding equipment and a way to keep the new spindle square to the axle tube while you weld; it’s not a job for hand tools alone. Semi-trailer spindles need a press and proper alignment tooling to seat correctly on the axle tube. Check the Required Tools tab on each product page, or use our Facility Finder to find a shop near you that handles the install.
Which trailer axle brands are your spindles compatible with?
Our trailer spindles are compatible with many popular trailer axle brands, including Dexter, Hendrickson, and SAF-Holland, as well as many other light-, medium-, and heavy-duty trailer axle systems. They are commonly used on utility trailers, equipment trailers, cargo trailers, car haulers, dump trailers, flatbed trailers, and semi-trailers. Compatibility depends on the spindle dimensions and bearing and seal specifications.
